Having known
your natural inclination and ability, one also needs to be focused.
Focus
according to the Collins Dictionary is defined as a point upon which attention,
activity, etc is directed or concentrated.
Oxford
Advanced Learners Dictionary defines it as the center of interest or activity,
an act of concentrating interest or activity on something.
Cambridge
Dictionaries on the other hand defines it as the main or central point of
something, especially of attraction or interest.
VOCABULARY.COM
says “when a person is focused on something, they are paying attention on it.
When a camera lens or eyes are focused, they’ve made the adjustments needed to
see clearly. When a beam of light is focused on a thing, it’s shining on that
thing. When you are focused on school,
all your attention is fixed on one thing: school.
When your
telescope is focused on Jupiter, you have aligned the lenses with where Jupiter
is in the sky. And when your flashlight is focused on the base of your chin,
the shadows cast on the rest of your face make you look creepy”.
In summary,
focus simply means minding a particular thing without allowing any distractions
until success is achieved. In this regard, I have a story to tell: During my
secondary school days, I love to be an engineer. Having looked at my
performances in the relevant subjects, I discovered I was able, so I refused to
be distracted by my father who wanted me to read law and my aunt who also
wanted me to read medicine, today, I am successful, for I am happy and fulfilled
in my career as an engineer. That’s why I am talking about being focused
because without focus, one can go on being jack of all trade and master of
none. So focus is a vital tool that cannot be neglected for career success. So
embrace it.
