understanding behavior modification

Before we talk about behavior modification, lets first of all understand what behavior really is, am going to give you different definitions of behavior.

What is behavior?
Behavior is actions, reactions and activity of man towards the environment.
Behavior is also referred to as anything involving movement in response to stimuli.
Behavior can be said to be any action of an organism that changes its relationship and provide output from the individual to the environment
Behavior can also be seen as action of a system or organism in relation to its environment, or response of the system or organism to various stimuli or input, whether internal or external, conscious or subconscious, covert or overt, voluntary or involuntary.
Behavior can be learned and unlearned, and can also be innate. You can review your behavior through your attitude which can either be positive or negative.
Humans evaluate the acceptability of behavior using social norms and regulate behavior by means of social control.

Behavior modification is the application of learning theories or principles in order to systematically change or improve maladaptive behaviors.
it is also seen as making an attempt to change human behavior and emotion in a way that it will be beneficial using the laws of modern theory.
Behavior modification is the use of empirical demonstrated behavior change techniques to improve behavior.
It can also be seen as a process of altering the behavior of an individual and reactions to stimuli, through positive and negative reinforcement of adaptive behavior.
In summary; behavior modification is the systematic application of these principles that evolved out of many years of research with humans or animals to maladaptive behavior patterns.
